My Story

MY OWN JOURNEY

Like many of you, my story is also one where I have been affected by issues with hormones.  From the age of 13, I suffered from crippling period pains and migraines and was told for many years my digestive symptoms were IBS. I had placenta praevia with my pregnancies and after the birth of my children, my symptoms continued where I struggled with low energy and bloating quite often, but like most mothers, I just got on with it.

Eventually I received a correct diagnosis of stage-5 endometriosis by which point I was just relieved to finally get some answers, not knowing that it was oestrogen dominance had been driving my symptoms for so many years. Then, after a period of high stress in my life which included the loss of both my parents and a good friend, a move to Australia (and back!) with a baby and a toddler, and finally separating from my husband, I started to get my first signs of perimenopause at age 42 - the only upside being that it took away my endometriosis but this was replaced by struggling with an array of menopausal symptoms, and believe me I had most of them at one point - not much fun at all - I can truly empathise with what other women go through at this time of change.

BALANCING ACT

Now I see that much of my life had been spent coping with the side effects of imbalanced hormones. If only I knew back then what I know now!  Any pain, bloating or tiredness I experienced had never been improved by doctors or any medication I was given over the years, so I decided I had to learn more about improving my health on my own. Having worked in the fitness industry and within other holistic therapies, my continued interest finally pushed me to go on to study nutritional therapy (and so much more) at the College of Naturopathic Medicine. I know now, through an immense amount of research, studies and functional testing that THERE ARE ANSWERS.  All my study has been a fascinating journey and as I sit here today I feel grateful to be in the privileged position of the enlightenment it has given me and that I am able, in turn, to help you too.

FINDING THE ROOT CAUSE

Many of us have felt the frustration of knowing something is wrong but never getting to the root of it.  We have an amazing healthcare system here in the UK which we should feel very grateful for but all too often ten minutes of GP time is just not enough. We can take painkillers and one size fits all medications to dampen the symptoms but without the time and resources to properly investigate, it can take years to really get to the bottom of what is really going on behind the scenes.

There are no symptoms without an underlying cause, and most medications only mask those symptoms while the main driver for your illness or imbalance is allowed to continue unchecked. I can offer you a better way to get to those answers. Through an in-depth analysis of your health and a 360 degree approach (lifestyle, nutrition, medical, genetic and environmental) possibly with the addition of functional testing, we can peel back the layers to reveal what is really needed. Once we are armed with this knowledge, we can then use a personalised approach that supports your body in a way that is unique to you. This can be a much more effective way of restoring health rather than taking medications or a generic HRT that is designed to treat all women with ‘similar’ symptoms, not you as an individual. Everyone has a different genetic make up, lifestyle, stress level, has lived through different triggers and environments and will therefore have differing hormone levels - I will work within your unique set of circumstances and I am passionate about doing so. A protocol that is 100% right for you, not every woman.

Knowing that I hold the key to helping others find answers is very exciting. I cannot think of a more rewarding career than one where I can aid women in taking back control of their health and reclaiming the fulfilling life that we all deserve to live.
