Menopause

Some women sail through the menopause, but in my experience through talking to many women I believe that fewer of us are doing this, or maybe, just more of us are talking about it now thankfully.  This time can be life-changing for some, and it is supposed to be just that – the change – but for many women it causes unbearable side effects that they weren’t expecting that change their life, their outlook, their relationships and how they function from day to day.

Common symptoms include brain fog, lethargy, night sweats, hot flushes, moodswings, memory loss and weightgain and these can all cause even more anxiety about what is really going on.  The menopause can be a rollercoaster ride and can be even harder in a society that doesn’t recognise or seemingly want to acknowledge that this change is actually debilitating for some women.  You can’t just stay in bed for an extra hour to catch up on missed sleep through nightsweats when you have a job to do or have to make breakfast for the kids, as women we just battle on, because that is what most of us do, it’s our way of life and that can impact our overall health if there is not enough time for the self-care that is needed. I still don’t believe there is enough support for women out there.

So how can we get through this time of life with as little angst as possible?  The problem with the menopause is that we are All different, with differing levels of declining hormones that affect us in many ways.  One woman’s low oestrogen symptoms may have similar symptoms to another woman’s low progesterone, but these two women will be treated in the same way when their needs to bring them back into balance and counteract those symptoms will be entirely unique to them. Why? Because we have different genetic make ups, different stress levels, different ways of coping, different outlooks, can be on different medications, had different viruses, have different gut bacteria, different liver detoxification ability, different emotional triggers or physical incidences that lead us all to be in different!! And Therefore we won’t all find the same answers that lead to the same outcome - because of that.

Functional personalised medicine for women is what I specialise in.  I can help you find what is right for You.  Your body is complex and there are an array of potential reasons for presenting symptoms. I won’t just be looking at your oestrogen, progesterone, testosterone and DHEA levels, we may also need to see what’s happening with your thyroid, your cortisol levels, your insulin and cholesterol for they all impact each other. I will help find solutions for your levels of hormones along with what fits with your beliefs and your lifestyle at this point in your life - and I understand that that might Not be a generic HRT or an antidepressant which seem to be handed out so readily now after a 5 minute conversation.  Let’s get to the CAUSE for imbalance.

Through thorough symptom analysis, personal medical history and functional testing we can work together to finetune a protocol that uniquely works for you and enables you to return to a fulfilled life that claims back the energy, good mood and clear mind that you need to get through this time of ‘change’. All of us deserve a journey through menopause with as little angst as possible, not only because of the troubling physical symptoms but also for your mental health, your relationships and to offset ageing and improve your longevity, personally I think there is nothing more important to invest in than your health and wellbeing at this time. So if you feel that this is something that you need help with, book in a call with me and we can discuss what the right path is for you.
